Bangalore: The 10th City Civil Court on Tuesday stayed the screening of Kannada film Abhinetri, starring Pooja Gandhi and directed by Satish Pradhan, over a petition filed by an author. The film was scheduled to release this month.

The petitioner, Bhagya Krishnamurthy, contended that the film was based on her novel Abhinetriya Antaranga, penned in 2003 and also published in a weekly Kannada magazine. The court has ordered to take possession of the script and the reel.

Meanwhile Pooja Gandhi, producer of the film, plans to approach the High Court. “There is no similarity between my film and the novel. The team hadn’t heard of the novel until the case was filed,” she told Express.

The film was slated to her comeback after Dandupalya and is said to be based on the life of popular yesteryear actress Kalpana.
