BMTC on Wednesday launched its Big Trunk and Feeder services to connect suburbs on National Highways with various areas in Bangalore.

The Big Trunk routes will operate from the outskirts of the city to specific bus stands from where passengers can use feeder services to reach other areas.

The service was inaugurated at Hoskote by Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily and State Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Also, various circular routes across the city, which BMTC has branded as ‘Chakra’, were launched. These will originate and terminate at the same bus station while taking a circular route.

According to BMTC, the trunk and feeder services will consist entirely of new buses. These buses will operate every half-an-hour and will be available even during non-peak hours in the afternoon. Passengers will also have the option of purchasing a single ticket for both services, thus reducing the waiting time at the route changing point.

The trunk and feeder services will soon be extended to all major roads of the city. For Hoskote and surrounding areas, route number MKT 12H and KBS 12H will ferry commuters between City Market and Hoskote and KBS and Hoskote. There will be 20 trunk schedules operated in a day. In addition, five feeder services with 30 schedules in a day will also be operational.
