BANGALORE: An unidentified man made away with a laptop, a bag containing some documents and Rs 20,000 belonging to a hotel owner in J P Nagar by diverting his attention on Wednesday night.

According to police, the incident took place when Kiran, a resident of N S Palya, was going home in his car around 9.30 pm. On the way, a man on a bike overtook him.

At J P Nagar 3rd Phase, the man signalled Kiran to stop the car and told him that there was a leak in the car’s fuel tank. Kiran stopped the car and got out to check what was wrong. Seizing the opportunity, the man took away the laptop and the bag containing Rs 20,000 and escaped from the spot. Only later, Kiran realised that he was duped, the police said.

Based on his complaint, J P Nagar police have registered a case and are looking for the accused.

They are also checking the footage from CCTVs installed in the surrounding area to find the bike’s details.
