Girl’s Death: Engineers Suspended

BANGALORE : Following the death of nine-year-old Geethalakshmi, who fell down an uncovered storm water drain, BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana has suspended assistant engineer Swamy and assistant executive engineer Shivaprasad of Puttenahalli ward.

Lakshminarayana had ordered an inquiry and based on the report, the two engineers were suspended on charges of dereliction of duty. Lakshminarayana told Express that the problems have been identified and all officers have been told to fall in line or face action.


In the aftermath of the death of kids falling into open drains, a public interest petition has been filed in the High Court seeking an inquiry into such cases. The petition seeks directions to conduct an inquiry and initiate criminal prosecution against negligent officials.
