5 Arrested on Robbery Charges

BANGALORE: The Central Crime Branch police on Friday arrested a four-member gang and a habitual offender for dacoity in and around the city.

According to the police, they are students from reputed colleges, robbing people to lead lavish lives. The arrested were identified as Arun (22), Naveen (24), Goutam (20), and Srinivas (22), all students and residents of Hulimavu, Mico Layout, and Ganesh.

‘Students With Monkey Caps’

The police said the accused would target North Indian students seen in the company of girls and rob them of their valuables. They would go on bikes around midnight and threaten the victims with lethal weapons. They would wear monkey caps to conceal their identity and attack the victims who retaliated.

Ganesh, a habitual offender, is said to be the one training the students. The students would later spend the loot on drugs and alcohol.

A special team was recently formed to nab the accused after several robbery incidents were reported from Madiwala.
