BANGALORE: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday grilled Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami of Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt in a sexual harassment case registered against him.
It was alleged that on several occasions he had sexually harassed and raped a 47-year-old singer, who was a devotee of the mutt.
The seer came to the CID headquarters with his supporters and devotees at 1.45 pm and appeared before the investigating officers. He was interrogated till 7 pm, and was issued a notice to appear before them again on Wednesday.
Shambu Sharma, counsel for the seer, told reporters that the seer was summoned on October 9 to appear before them in connection with a complaint registered in Girinagar police station but the seer received the notice on October 12. The seer left for Bangalore on Monday at 7.30 am but couldn’t appear before the CID the same day as he was too tired after a 500-km journey. He said the seer was co-operating with the probe.
ADGP (CID ) P K Garg said the seer will be sent for medical tests. “We will follow all procedures required for the investigation,” he said.
