Residents, Policemen Nab Chain Snatcher

BANGALORE: Alert residents and a police patrol party helped prevent yet another case of chain-snatching.

A 24-year-old man was arrested for snatching the chain of a woman in Babusabpalya, a stone’s throw from Hennur police station.

According to police, Rajesh had been watching the victim for the past few days and knew her whereabouts.

Around 6.30 pm on Friday, he went up to the victim’s house on the second floor and rang the door bell.  He identified himself as a milk man and as soon as she opened the door, he made away with her 40 gm gold chain.

“However, she screamed and neighbours rushed to her rescue,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division) Satheesh.

“Thankfully, policemen were patrolling the area and managed to catch him after a chase,” he added.

Rajesh, a native of Kanyakumari, has been working in the city as a crane mechanic for the past two years.

The police found him in an inebriated condition and they suspect that he had consumed drugs.
