Will Ask Health Officials to Inspect Kidwai: Mayor

BANGALORE: Mayor N Shantha Kumari on Saturday said she will speak to Health Department officials regarding inspection of Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology.

Express had reported a few days ago about the unhygienic condition in the dormitories used by relatives and patients, with rats frequenting the corridors and bathrooms stinking with stale food.

When asked about the incident, the Mayor said, “Most of the patients that get treated in Kidwai are from rural areas and don’t have much knowledge about public hygiene. They should be made more aware.” She was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the National Breast Cancer Workshop held at the institute on Saturday.

She said more women need to be made aware about breast cancer. She also urged Dr M Vijay Kumar, Director, Kidwai, to hold more awareness camps. “Many women are still hesitant to come forward and discuss about breast cancer. This needs to change,” she said.
