BANGALORE: Mayor N Shanthakumari, in a meeting on Monday, directed zonal joint directors to start clearing encroachments around storm water drains in the city with immediate effect. She also warned them of strict action if the work is not started soon.
She told them to seek the assistance of the Department of Surveys to demarcate encroachments and clear them. Officials have been told to remove at least one encroachment in every zone per week.
BBMP has identified 1,418 locations where storm water drains have been encroached upon. However, more encroachments need to be identified, said sources.
Later, BBMP commissioner M Lakshminarayana said once the encroachments are cleared, fences will be erected and the required funds released.
