Clearance for Airport Expansion

BANGALORE: Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has received environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests for second stage expansion of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The clearance (EC) paves the way for BIAL to secure final approvals for the project.

The expansion includes construction of a new terminal along with a second runway, taxiways, aprons, aircraft parking spaces and all aviation facilities, according to a release from BIAL.“This expansion is key to achieving our overall vision of making Bangalore the gateway to South India,”said G V Sanjay Reddy, MD, BIAL.

The expansion is envisaged to accommodate the future traffic growth which is likely to reach 55 million passengers annually by 2029-2030 and approximately one million tonnes of cargo movement.
