Contractor Forged Commissioner's Signature to Get Funds: Councillor

BANGALORE: A civil contractor with Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) forged the Commissioner’s signature to obtain funds from the civic agency, alleged Yediyur councillor N R Ramesh on Wednesday.

He said civil contractor from Gurappanapalya, Sadiq, forged the Commissioner’s signature to obtain `1.19 crore for work that was not executed. When Ramesh got wind of it, he went to the Chief Accounts Office where the file was held back. The money was to be released through the Peenya branch of Syndicate Bank.

“Sadiq created a rubber stamp copy of the signature to get the funds sanctioned. A BBMP staff involved in the act has agreed that the signature was forged. We have recorded his version,” the councillor said.

He demanded that BBMP lodge a police complaint. “If they don’t, I shall lodge complaint with the BMTF. There are chances that Sadiq could have claimed funds from BBMP through the same modus operandi,” Ramesh said.

Chief Accounts Officer Veeragowda Patil said they are waiting for BBMP Commissioner M Lakshminarayana’s instruction in the matter.

“We might either lodge a complaint or conduct a departmental inquiry, but we shall work as per the Commissioner’s direction,” he said.
