CHENNAI: Don Bosco Matriculation School, Teacher’s Colony, celebrated Teachers’ Day recently. The programme started with a prayer song and students welcomed the teachers as they carried lamps in a procession to symbolise that teachers ‘enlighten the future’.

Chief guest Fr Victor Ramesh, superintendent of RC schools, Archdiocese of Madras, Mylapore, presided over the function. He was honoured by the correspondent Fr B Antony with a shawl and a memento.

The cultural programme started with the theme, ‘Call to Serve’. The students enacted the life history of great teachers like Jesus, Mother Teresa and Radhakrishnan. They brought out the ancient skill of teaching — Gurukulam. The teachers were honoured for the centum results they produced during the academic year 2013 – 2014.

Fr Victor spoke on the values of teachers. Principal Jothimani thanked the chief guest. The programme came to an end with the national anthem.
