Answer Scripts Sent for Tests

BANGALORE:  The Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) has sent for forensic tests the answer scripts of the post-graduate medical exam which were allegedly tampered with.

According to university sources, 19 more answer scripts have been sent for forensic tests following the green light from the RGUHS Syndicate.

At its recent meeting, the inquiry committee’s report was submitted and the Syndicate decided to arrange for the forensic test before handing over the case to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). “If we directly hand over the case to CID, we need to answer many questions. This is what university authorities and inquiry committee members have already faced in the UG marks scam,” a Syndicate member told Express.

The marks card scam is already being probed by the CID and the university wanted to be thorough in its internal inquiry before handing over this case as well. “We were called and questioned by CID officials several times.... They cross-questioned us in many ways. So this time, we decided to make all possible ground-level inquiries before handing over the case to them,” a senior RGUHS official said.

According to sources, the inquiry committee, constituted after the university received an anonymous letter, which was headed by senior Syndicate member Rajesh Shenoy, has identified over 19 scripts as having been re-stitched. More than 7,000 answer scripts were verified by the panel.

S Sachidanand, Registrar (evaluation) of RGUHS, confirmed that the answer scripts have been sent for forensic tests, but refused to reveal the number of colleges involved in the scam. Probe panel members refused to interact with the media on directions from the Syndicate. But sources said once the university receives the forensic report, a special Syndicate meeting will be convened to discuss it.
