BANGALORE: Political parties should not be outside the purview of the Right To Information (RTI) Act, said Santosh Hegde, former Lokayukta. “All organisations that discharge government duties should be brought under the RTI. Political parties are no different,”he said.
He was speaking at an interaction organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry on RTI.
Talking about the importance of RTI, Hegde said, “The constitution provides for freedom of speech, but what is the use if there is no freedom and right to information?” He also called for stricter punishment for blackmailers. ENS
