BANGALORE: A head constable of the Madiwala police station and a home guard were arrested for harassing an engineer couple on a late night walk.
Inspector Prashanth of the station was suspended for not taking action against the duo despite a complaint filed by the couple — Swathi and Punith Kumar.
The couple was taking a walk around 11.30 pm on September 15 near Madiwala lake where head constable Sridhar and home guard Narasimhamurthy were on night patrol.
They reportedly told the couple that taking a walk was not allowed. After taking them to the police station, Shridhar and Narasimhamurthy allegedly threatened to register a case against them. They allegedly collected `350 from the two and let them go.
The couple after returning from the police station posted the matter on Facebook. The following day, they went to the police station and registered a complaint before Inspector Prashanth. However, he didn’t initiate any action. The couple later complained to City Police Commissioner M N Reddi via Twitter. Taking the plaint seriously, Reddi directed DCP Rohini Katoch Sepat to investigate the case. ENS
