'Mangala Suspension is Valid'

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday upheld the suspension of Mangala Sridhar, a suspended Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) member observing that suspension is valid and in accordance with the law.Mangala was suspended on May 14, following allegations of her involvement in the scam-riddled appointment of 362 gazetted officers in 2011. Challenging the suspension, Mangala had moved the Karnataka High Court last month.

In her petition, she claimed that the Governor had no authority to pass order of suspension on his own. The court rejected the contention claiming the Governor need not wait till a reply from the President on the issue and can pass a suspension order if he is convinced.
