Cop Suspended for Protecting Rowdy

BANGALORE: Vyalikaval police inspector Shankaracharya was on Wednesday suspended by the city police commissioner for dereliction of duty.

The decision was based on an inquiry report submitted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil on an incident at Orange Bar, near Vinayaka Circle.

On August 3, rowdy-sheeter Fighter Ravi had an altercation with three youngsters at the bar. Ravi had allegedly threatened the boys with a revolver.

According to Patil, based on their complaint, Ravi was picked up but  Shankaracharya did not book him under the Arms Act or Section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder). He was not even arrested. Ravi  soon tracked down the complainants and began harassing them.

This came to light during a routine visit to the police station by Patil. Subsequently, Shankaracharya filed an attempt to murder case against Ravi.

Meanwhile, Police Commissioner M N Reddi said the department has given strict instructions to all officers on registering complaints.

“There is a limit to tolerance and action will be taken if procedures are not adhered to,” he said.
