Protect Tanks and SWDs, Says Deve Gowda

BANGALORE: Blaming encroachments on tanks and raja kaluve (storm water drains) for the flooding of low-lying areas during rains, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Friday urged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to clear them.

“Whoever they may belong, including politicians even affiliated to the JD(S), the government must clear the encroachments before the situation gets out of control,” he said. He said land value has skyrocketed in the city over the years and many people with vested interests, including politicians, have encroached tanks and constructed concrete structures over them.
