One Killed in Drunken Driving Case

BANGALORE: Drunken driving proved fatal for a 42-year-old Gram Panchayat member after he rammed his car into a road median on Tumkur highway near Nelamangala on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Lingaraju, a resident of KG Lakkenahalli in Nelamangala. Lingaraju was a Kadabagere Gram Panchayat member and a civil contractor.

The police said the incident occurred around 10.30 pm when he was returning after visiting a construction site near Binnamangala. He was drunk and was allegedly speeding while driving his Mahindra Bolero. When he reached Danojipalya near Prerana Motors, he lost control of his car and rammed into the road median.

He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed after a while. The doctors confirmed that he was under the influence of alcohol while driving. Nelamangala Town police have registered a case.
