Gang of Five Blackmailers Arrested

BENGALURU: South-east division police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a gang of robbers who blackmailed and robbed several people. Police seized a car, lethal weapons and `24,000 cash from them.

The arrested have been identified as Abdul Karim (28), Mohammed Saleem (27), Abbas (31), Sainuddin(24) and Sameer (24). According to police sources, the five, who hail from Madikeri, used to come to the city often and download pictures of girls from social networking sites. They would later morph the pictures, threaten the girls and demand ransom.

Police said the gang kidnapped an employee of a private firm recently. They took him to the city’s outskirts in a car and robbed him of his valuables and a cell phone. They also threatened him with dire consequences if he did not reveal the PIN of his ATM cards and withdrew `95,000 from his bank accounts, before dumping him on the way.

The man approached the Electronics City police and filed a complaint. A special team set a trap for the gang by posing as ‘clients’ and caught them.
