Philatelic Expo this Weekend

KASTURBA ROAD: Karnataka Postal Circle is organising the first zonal level philatelic exhibition titled, KARNAPEX 2015, at Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium from January 16 to 19. It aims to provide the members of public valuable insights into art, architecture, culture, science and technology, flora and fauna and a number of other interesting subjects.

The exhibition will be inaugurated by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former chairman, ISRO on Friday. The four days of the event will be observed as Vigyaan Diwas, Samskriti Diwas, Swasthya Diwas and Swachchata Diwas, in commemoration of achievements in the fields of science and technology, culture and heritage, health and well-being and cleanliness respectively.

Vigyaan Diwas on Friday will witness the release of a special cover on Mars Orbiter Mission followed by the launch of the book Mysore Anche, stamps on Karnataka and a special cover on Karnataka.

 On Saturday, a special cover and a pack of picture postcards titled Heritage Bengaluru, depicting the ancient monuments of the city, will be released by Nagambika Devi, Principal Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Department of Youth and Sports Empowerment. This will be followed up with the release of a special cover on ‘Say No to Child Labour’ and pictorial cancellations on ‘St Mary’s Island’, Malpe and ‘Kattale Basadi’, Barkur.

Swasthya Diwas observed on Sunday will witness the release of a special cover to commemorate the birth centenary of Jonas Edward Salk, inventor of the Polio vaccine. A panel discussion on ‘Philately as an Alternate Investment’ has been scheduled for the afternoon.

The observance of Swatchchata Diwas will mark the culmination of the four-day exhibition. Release of a special cover commemorating 100 years of return of Mahatma Gandhi to India and his concern towards cleanliness has been scheduled for the day.

The Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry - (FKCCI) has completed 100 years of existence and Allahabad Bank has completed 150 years. To celebrate these two events, Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala will release special covers on these two institutions.

During this event, more than 250 participants will come forward to display precious and rare stamps. Apart from this, there will be events like Treasure Hunt and quiz competitions for schoolchildren to evince their interest in the field of philately.

A number of stalls will sell other philatelic materials at the venue. During the exhibition, collections from eminent philatelists like Dr Sitha Bhateja, Pradeep Jain, Daniel Monterio, Athani Mahalingeshwar and Dr R G Sangoram will be showcased.
