Indian Economy, Growth Rate Discussed at Guru Nanak College

CHENNAI: Guru Nanak College conducted the valedictory function of its Economics Association.

The gathering was welcomed by Jesu Arul Christella, vice president of the association. S Anand, HoD of Economics, introduced the chief guest and the topic. 

Chief guest Prof Shashanka Bhide, economist and director of Madras Institute of Development Studies (MIDS), Chennai, spoke about the Indian economy. He explained the calculation of growth rate and its different dimensions. He said the key to growth rate was productivity, efficiency and regional dimension, and they could be achieved with reforms in efficiency of producers and public services, and a strong democracy.  Principal M Selvaraj spoke about the importance of studying economics.

M Prem, secretary of the association, proposed a vote of thanks.
