State Government Withdraws 5 Film Awards

BENGALURU:  The State Government on Monday informed the High Court that five state film awards given to two films for 2009-10 have been withdrawn.

Additional Advocate General A G Shivanna submitted a memo along with the government order before Justice S Abdul Nazeer to this effect. According to the order dated August 31, the five awards which have been withdrawn are --- best editing (Srinivas P Babu), best music director (Harikrishna), best male playback singer (Tippu) and best female playback singer(Lakshmi Nataraj), all for the film ‘Raja’, and best screenplay award for the film ‘Olave Jeevana Lekkachara’(Nagathihalli Chandrashekar).

Taking it on record, Justice Abdul Nazeer disposed of a petition filed by S Radha,NR Creations, who had claimed that the authorities had received applications/entries for the awards after the deadline. C Manjula, Under Secretary to Government, Department of Kannada and Culture, issued the order withdrawing the awards on Monday saying that these applications were received after the deadline.

A committee headed by actor-producer  Dwarakish had selected the awardees and the state government had announced the names on November 16, 2011.
