BBMP Plans to Take Over ORR Maintenance

BENGALURU:  The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has requested the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to hand over the Outer Ring Roads (ORRs) to it for maintenance.

BBMP Administrator T M Vijay Bhaskar on Tuesday held a meeting with BDA officials in this regard. Speaking to reporters later, Bhaskar said in 2013, the state government had ordered BDA to hand over the ORRs to the BBMP for maintenance. But this has not happened so far.

“There are complaints of garbage and debris dumped on the Outer Ring Roads. There is a need for maintenance. We have asked the BDA officials to hand over the ORRs to the Palike so that we can maintain these roads.”  Bhaskar said a team of BBMP and BDA engineers will inspect the ORRs to check if there are any pending works and make a list of them, if any. “The BDA has to complete the pending works before handing over the roads to BBMP.”

As there are heavy vehicular movement on the ORRs, the Palike is planning to purchase sweeping machines to keep the roads clean. The administrator has directed the zonal commissioners to call for a short-term tender for these machines.
