Woman Poisons Children, Kills Self

BENGALURU: A 42-year-old woman committed suicide after poisoning her two children in her house at Padarayanapura in J J Nagar on Thursday.

The deceased have been identified as Rizwana, a native of Tamil Nadu, her son Riyaz (5) and daughter Hajira (3). She had married Zaheer Ahmed, a tailor, six years ago. Ahmed lives in Oman. Police said the incident took place late last night. She fed food laced with poison to her children and later consumed it too.

On Friday morning, Anwar, Rizwana’s brother-in-law, came to her house to call her for breakfast. When she did not respond to his repeated calls, Anwar peeped in through a window and saw Rizwana lying on the floor with the children. He then alerted the neighbours who informed the JJ Nagar police. “We have not found a suicide note and the reason behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained. The food that the family consumed has been sent to a laboratory for examination. We are investigating the case from all angles and waiting for the statement of her husband who is yet to arrive,” a senior police officer added.

Drunk Man Tries to Rob Student

A 25-year-old drunk man barged into the house of an engineering student with an intention to rob her at Kirloskar Colony in Peenya on Friday.

Police said that the complainant, a native of Jharkhand, said the man tried to escape with valuables. A senior police officer said that around 4.30 am, the student, who lives alone in the house was asleep. The accused, who is suspected to be a habitual offender, barged into the house after opening the latch. The student was woken by sounds. She started screaming after noticing that the accused was inebriated. He tried to gag her and threatened to kill her if she raised an alarm. The girl then took a piece of glass and attacked him. When accused fled from the scene, she alerted the neighbours and later filed a complaint with the Peenya police who are on the lookout for him.

Realtor Held For Raping Employee

Thalaghattapura police on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old realtor on charges of raping his employee. The accused has been identified as Hemanth Yadav, a resident of Anjanapura.

Police said the complainant, who was working at the office of the realtor, stated that the incident took place three months ago. She said Hemanth had raped her on the office premises when she was alone and threatened to kill her if she revealed about it to anyone. She quit her job a few days ago and, on Thursday night, she approached Thalaghattapura police and filed a complaint. Based on it, Hemanth was arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Man, Daughter Run Over by Train

A 40-year-old man and his daughter were killed on the spot after a speeding train hit them at Kumbalagodu on the outskirts of the city. The deceased are Puttanayaka and Shoba alias Roopa, residents of Rayaradoddi in Kumbalagodu. Both were employed with a private company.

Police said the accident occurred around 8.30 pm when they were returning home after work. They were crossing the railway track and, as there was no power, they did not see the train.  A passerby alerted the police. Police informed the family after finding Puttanayaka’s cell phone.

CID Quizzes Seer in Rape Case

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials on Friday took Raghaveshwara Bharathi of Ramachandrapura Mutt into custody and interrogated him in connection with the second rape case filed against him at Girinagar police station.

The seer was earlier interrogated by the  CID in a rape case registered against him in August 2014. After the second case was registered, the seer had sought anticipatory bail.

A police officer said the seer was brought to the CID office on Palace Road  around 3.30 pm and was interrogated by a woman officer for one-and-a-half hours. The officials also recorded his statement and then released him. 

On August 29, the victim, a 25-year-old  artiste, approached police with the help of a NGO and alleged that she was raped by the seer twice in 2006 when she was a Class 10 student at a school in Hosanagara, Shivamogga district, and in 2012.

On August 28, 2014, a ‘Ramakatha’ artiste had filed a rape case with Banashankari police.
