Drunk Man Bludgeons Toddler to Death

BENGALURU: A 19-year-old man kidnapped a one-and-a-half-year-old boy and bludgeoned him to death at Goraguntepalya near Laggere on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Firoz, son of Rafiq and Razia, residents of Rajagopalnagar.

The accused has been identified as Vadivelu alias Murthy and is said to be a drug addict. He is a native of Tamil Nadu, a ragpicker, who lives at RMC Yard.

The police said the incident took place in the afternoon. Murthy, who was in inebriated state, had come to Rafiq’s house. After a while he came out of the house and found Firoz playing alone and took him to an isolated place.

Firoz started screaming and Murthy tried to stop it by covering his mouth. As he did not stop crying, Murthy hit him on the head with a rock and fled the scene.

Razia, who could not find Firoz, went in search of him and learnt that her son was with Murthy. She alerted Rafiq who then found Murthy at RMC yard market in the evening and asked about his son. Rafiq became suspicious and approached Rajgopalnagar police, who then took Murthy into the custody.

During interrogation, Murthy gave different statements to the police.

He told the police that he had left Firoz at one of his friends’ place at MS Palya but he was not there. Murthy eventually gave in and told the police that he had killed the boy and led them to his body.

The boy’s body was found in a pool of blood. The reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.

On Saturday, Murthy and Rafiq had consumed alcohol and had come to Rafiq’s house.  After Rafiq fell asleep, Murthy kidnapped the boy and killed him. He told the police that he was inebriated and was not aware of what he was doing.
