BENGALURU: This Gowri-Ganesha festival, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has designated 36 lakes and set up 136 mobile tanks for idol immersion.
People have been requested to immerse idols only at these places. Immersions will not be allowed after 11 pm and bursting crackers and using loud speakers during processions have been prohibited.
In a release, Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy said all arrangements have been made for idol immersions at these lakes, including Sankey, Ulsoor and Yediyur lakes. The immersion areas have been barricaded and warning sign boards put up. Ten lifeguards and support staffers will be on standby at each immersion point. Proper lighting and loud speakers have been installed at all these places.
The BBMP has also set up a team of engineers and pourakarmikas to maintain sanitation. The pourakarmikas will collect the flowers, leaves and other puja material and transfer these for composting. Motor boats, water-pumping machines and cranes will also be deployed. Immersion points will have police security. The Mayor has urged people to use eco-friendly idols.
