BBMP Likely to Present Supplementary Budget

Express News Service

Bengaluru: The Congress-JD(S) alliance at the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council is likely to present the supplementary budget soon, according to BBMP sources.

The BJP-ruled Council had presented a budget worth Rs 7,200 crore early this year. However, it was revised and a Rs 5,400-crore budget was finally approved by the state government. “Now, with a coalition rule in place, there is pressure from various leaders, including the JD(S). They are likely to present a supplementary budget,” sources said.

M Shivaraju, chairperson of Standing Committee for Taxation and Finance, who was elected to the post on Wednesday, said he will discuss this with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, BBMP officials and District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy. “There is a need to check if there is a provision to present a supplementary budget. If everything is okayed, we will present it.”

Shivaraju also pointed out that this year so far, the BBMP, during the administrator’s period, had collected Rs 1,350 crore. They will work to meet the target of collecting another Rs 1,000 crore by the end of this fiscal.
