252 Life Convicts Released

BENGALURU: Based on their good conduct during the sentence, the state government has released 252 jailbirds across the state, who were serving life sentence.

Governor Vajubhai Wala gave a green signal to the state government proposal to release them from prison on Wednesday.

Since 2007, 253 prisoners were awaiting release, but the governor granted freedom to 252.

Of these, 147 prisoners are from Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, which include two females, 24 from Ballari jail, 53 from Mysuru prison, eight from Bijapur, three from Dharwad and one from Belagavi jail.

The governor rejected permission for a prisoner on technical grounds.

Babu, a prisoner who was serving life-time sentence in Kalaburagi, Gulbarga jail, was not given permission as he is serving the sentence for the murder of a seven-year-old.
