BENGALURU:The Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) on Thursday stayed the order withdrawing Dr R Gopal’s appointment as Commissioner of the Department of Archaeology, Mysuru. Hearing a petition filed by Dr Gopal, the bench stayed the order of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR).

Advocate M S Bhagwat, representing Dr Gopal, argued that the DPAR order cancelling the appointment is bad in law. The appointment was withdrawn for extraneous considerations and by succumbing to political pressure, he argued.

DPAR passed an order transferring Dr Gopal from the post of Director of Archives, Bengaluru, to Mysuru as the Commissioner of the Archaeology Department on September 14. He reported for duty on September 18. The appointment was withdrawn on September 21.

Bhagwat argued Dr Gopal has been disturbed within three days from the post of Commissioner, Archaeology Department, Mysuru, though the minimum period of stay prescribed under the guidelines is three years.
