ACB, I-T raid 9 premises of tainted officials, relatives

Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the properties of T N Chikkarayappa, suspended managing director of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd, and S C Jayachandra, suspended Chief Planning Officer, State Highways Development Project, and their relatives, in Bengaluru and Kolar.

BENGALURU/KOLAR : Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and Income Tax Department on Thursday raided the properties of T N Chikkarayappa, suspended managing director of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd, and S C Jayachandra, suspended Chief Planning Officer, State Highways Development Project, and their relatives, in Bengaluru and Kolar.


During the simultaneous searches conducted on nine premises, officials said they have seized incriminating documents relating to disproportionate assets (DA). 


ACB sources told Express that the seized documents included details of bank lockers apart from records confiscated by I-T officials earlier. 


Inspector General of Police (ACB) M A Saleem confirmed the raids, but refused to divulge more details as searches were still on. He said the exact details of the raids will be known on Friday. 


Near KGF in Kolar district, the ACB raided the houses of Chikkarayappa’s two brothers-in-law at Chinchandla Halli and Kuruburu. 


Sources said officials verified the bank locker of Ananth Murthy, one of the brothers-in-law, in Canara Bank. It is said the officials also seized land documents which were in the names of Chikkarayappa’s relatives. The raid had commenced at 5am.
