BENGALURU: Alarmed by suspicious activities and allegations from students about kidnap attempts, some schools in the city have warned parents about ensuring the safety of children when they are dropped off at the campus and also when being picked up.

Some schools have issued an official circular to parents and called for a meeting to brief them about the issue. A few school managements have even approached police requesting to increase patrolling around schools.

Though formal police complaints have not been lodged by parents or school authorities as of now, based on reports by teachers and staff members, Geetanjali Olympiad School in Kadubeesanahalli issued an official circular on Wednesday asking parents to take safety measures and also requested police for patrolling around schools.

A copy of the circular, which is available with Express, reads, “Parents are requested to be careful while dropping and picking up their kids outside the school campus as a parent has bought to our notice about an unexpected incident near the campus where an unidentifiable person tried to nab and take the child along with him/her. Kindly ensure your child is handed over to our maids or has entered the campus in the morning, while in the evening parents must enter the campus and escort the kids while going out of the campus.”

The school has also made it mandatory for parents to produce the pick-up ID issued by the school and show it to security or school staff who are on duty at the time of pick-up. “Henceforth, children who are going on their own will not be permitted to leave the campus without a parent or guardian,” the circular read.

When Express contacted the school management, Sireesha, principal of Geetanjali Olympiad School, said, “We have not filed a police complaint, but we have requested for increased patrolling.”

National Hill View Public School at Rajarajeshwari Nagar also called for a parents meeting on Wednesday morning and briefed them about an attempt to kidnap a Class 8 student of that school.
