BENGALURU: The birdbaths in the Bonsai Park at Lalbagh Botanical Garden have been removed after one of the birdbaths fell on Vikram Kumar (6), killing him here on Monday. Following the incident, security measures have been increased at the garden. The Bonsai Park remained closed on
Tuesday.

Speaking to Express, a senior officer from Lalbagh Horticulture Department said the birdbaths have been dismantled on Tuesday and more security personnel have been deployed to cover the entire premises effectively.

Meanwhile, the department officials were on Tuesday summoned by the Horticultrue Minister who sought detailed report about the incident. However, Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR) also issued a notice to the authorities to send an explanation and the exact cause for the incident.

Meanwhile, Express visited the Botanical Garden and found that many people, who visited the park were not aware of the incident and were shocked to know when they were told. Sandhya, who was on a holiday with her children was shocked to hear about the incident and said, “We felt there was nothing to worry.
Arrangements in the botanical park are good.”

Another visitor Arun, a assistant professor from Kochi, who heard the news from a cab driver, said, “We were not restricted in our movements but there were lack of security personnel here.”
Many feel that parents should be more careful when they  are with children. One of the garderners, who is working there since 10 years, said, “People do not follow any rules here. They think since they have paid they can do whatever they want.” The garderner thinks, the tragedy could have been prevented if parents were more careful.

Deputy Director of Horticulture, Dr M Jagadeesh, said, “Theinstallation was kept for birds to drink water. The boy’s parents shouldn’t have lifted and put him on it. We have decided to give compensation for the boy’s parents after discussing it with ministers and officers,” he added.
