BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said the government is seriously considering a proposal to appoint counsellors to help prevent suicides in the police department.

He was speaking on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day at the KSRP grounds in Koramangala. He said police officials work under pressure and spend less time with their families and children, but suicide is not a solution. They should know how to handle the situation with a brave heart, he added.

The government has also decided to open a school with CBSC syllabus for children of policemen. The government will ensure that quality education is given to children of all policemen in the future. In the last year, 22 policemen, including senior officials, died on duty. Special health schemes are also provided to policemen, the CM said.
