'I would love to play bridge for Karnataka': P Nagaraju

BENGALURU: P Nagaraju, the Chief General Manager of BSNL for Karnataka Telecom Circle, is a passionate bridge player. Born in Vijayawada, he did his BTech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from College of Engineering, Kakinadahe, and M Tech from IIT Delhi. Nagaraju joined the Department of Telecommunications in 1982 and recalls that he was late on his first day of work.

Your first day at work?

It was June 7, 1982. I was to join for the job in the morning, but since my train got delayed, I could sign in only from the afternoon.

How do you deal with tough bosses?

Our attitude is the key. It’s not difficult to work with tough bosses.

A happy memory?

When we successfully changed electro-mechanical switches to electronic ones in Visakhapatnam.

Your greatest challenge?

Implementation of the single window system in Visakhapatanam in 1995. It was to help customers to resolve their problems at a single counter. This was, however, discontinued five years later, after the introduction of the computerized billing system.

Your favourite pastime?

I love playing bridge. I have represented BSNL at the national level while working in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi. I would have loved to represent Karnataka, but we don't have a team here!

Your favourite vacation spot?

I have not travelled much though I’ve been posted in many places. But yes, the Kovalam Beach in Kerala is one of my favourites.
