BENGALURU: Theatres in the city stopped screening Tamil films in the wake of the Cauvery water agitation. Rapid Action Force was called at Nataraj Theatre as a precautionary measure and the theatre was closed from Monday evening.

Besides Nataraj theatre, Purnima theatre on JC Road, Lavanya theatre on St John’s Road, Sri Balaji theatre in Viveknagar, Amruth theatre in Lingarajapuram, Pushpanjali theatre in KR Puram and Maheshwari Mahadeshwara theatre in Subramanyapura are theatres in the city that screen Tamil films.

Venkatesh, porprietor of Mukunda theatre, said, “As long as the agitation is on, we will not screen Tamil movies. There are good movies coming up, one has Vikram in the lead and another has Dhanush. We hope the issues are solved before the release of these films. Most of the theatres will now be screening movies of other languages but the supply of other movies is not as good compared to Tamil. We are screening a Telugu movie now.”

Expressing support for the bandh, former president of Karnataka Film Chamber Association and Exhibitors Association K V Chandrashekar said, “We are definitely extending our support to the bandh. Although none of the theatres have been asked to stop the screening of Tamil movies, all of them have voluntarily stopped screening them.”
