Wheeling craze: Pub owner's son held for killing girl in Bengaluru

Bengaluru police on Tuesday arrested a 18 year old boy, son of a pub owner for reckless riding and doing wheelie that led to death of a pillion rider on his bike.

BENGALURU: Bengaluru police on Tuesday arrested a 18 year old boy, son of a pub owner for reckless riding and doing wheelie that led to death of a pillion rider on his bike. Police said Kirtan Richie, son of D Venkatesh, Co-Owner of Jive Pub has confessed to have caused the death of the victim by doing wheeling on OM Road.

On 1st September, while Kirtan, the rider was suddenly did wheeling stunt, a 18 year old girl Shiny Kiran who was pillion rider fell down and a canter ran over her. Police said, Kirtan used to regularly indulge in wheeling on empty roads. He does not have a DL, police said. He is a first year student of JD Institute of Fashion Technology.

His father had bought him a sports bike Yamaha R15 two years ago which met with an accident in Hebbal in Bengaluru in 2014. After that he was taking his friends bikes for stunts. Police said, according to Kirtan, he met the victim for the first time on Saturday afternoon (27th Aug) in a Drinks DJ party at Kormangala pub LoveShack.

They became friends & exchanged numbers. Then they were in touch for the next 4-5 days on phone & whatsapp. Police said, Another 16 year old minor son of a Contractor, without any DL, had purchased the second hand bike KA-32H-2591 with the help of "wheeling expert Kirtan" on 31st Aug from Thippsandra. Minor's father had given Rs 38,000 cash to buy the bike as his son was continuously pestering him for a bike.

The bike was especially modified for wheeling. On 1st Sep, Kirtan took that bike and picked his friend from KFC Indranagar and took her to KasturiNagar Park. And on the way back in front of Gopalan Mall in order to impress the girl, Kirtan did wheeling suddenly. As a result the girl fell down and a passing canter ran over her.

In order to save himself, he sped away without making any efforts to save her, police added. Police said, Kirtan Richie has been arrested and will be produced before the court u/s 304 IPC for 'committing culpable homicide not amount to murder'. This charge carries maximum punishment of 10 years. Canter driver Raghu D was arrested with the help of Canter owner and he corroborated the fact that an unknown bike was doing wheeling in front of his canter causing the death of the girl.
