Coffee paintings by Karen Eland recreate history with copies of The Last Supper and Starry Night. Closer home, Priyanka Gupta Agarwal has been painting with coffee for 12 years now.   “The world revolves around coffee and my love for experiment drives me to paint with coffee, which is of course not disappointing,” she says. Her upcoming workshop is on October 8 at Studio Chhavi.

For your garden
The acidity of the coffee beans grounded in makes the powder a deterrent to keep snails and slugs away and help attract earthworms that enrich the soil. Ravi Chandran, who practices gardening in his 300 sq ft terrace garden in Bengaluru, says applying the leftover filter coffee directly in the roots help in better blossoming of the flowers as the pH balance is maintained.

Unclogs sinks, flushes stains
There are days when our coffee needs another coffee, but sometimes our homes need coffee as well. The grainy texture of the coffee grounds helps remove tough stains on grills, tiles, kitchen counters and can also help unclog the sink. Coffee can also mend the scratches on the furniture by mixing it with vinegar and warm water and brushing the paste over the scratch.

Handy cooking
Coffee comes in handy when you want to prepare a perfectly tenderised and caramelised meat at home. It is not yet a popular concept in Indian culinary since the chefs here prefer using raw papaya paste to tendeise meat, but the good news is they are ready to experiment with coffee. “ On the occassion of coffee day, I would definitely like to try tenderising lamb with coffee,” says Sandeep Sadanandan executive chef at Serafina, Koramangala.

Beautify Your  Hair And  Skin
Hair experts say that two table spoons of instant coffee will not only be enough to give you a dark brown hair but also give a dark sheen texture. A research conducted by International Journal of Dermatology indicateS 46 per cent increase in average growth of hair follicles. Coffee grounds is learnt to be an excellent exfoliator since it helps boost collagen production in skin and scalp.
