BENGALURU: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday announced that she would adopt Kalena Agrahara Lake on Bannerghatta Road. The MP hopes to improve the lake with her MP local area development scheme (MPLADS) and also with the help of local authorities and Karnataka Lake Development Authority.

Speaking at an event held near the lake, she said, “We actively seek the participation of local residents to rejuvenate and develop Kalena Agrahara Lake and also the cooperation of local authorities and other stakeholders next to the lake to discuss the proposed rejuvenation plan.”

The Union minister made it clear that she would not play any role about the legal status of the residences, whether they were single or multiple units or slums situated around the lake and would not be party to any rehabilitation efforts.

Speaking about the rejuvenation plan, she said the idea was to restore the lake by drying the water, lifting the silt and using the same to construct the bunds, blocking the untreated water flow into the lake, planting trees along the bund and also make walking track around the lake and make it people-friendly.
The restoration work is likely to be completed by March 2018.
