Child murder suspect watched news and absconded from hometown: Bengaluru cops

Girinagar police who are investigating the murder of a six-year-old girl in Veerabhadra Nagar said the suspect has managed to escape from his hometown after watching the news.

BENGALURU: Girinagar police who are investigating the murder of a six-year-old girl in Veerabhadra Nagar said the suspect has managed to escape from his hometown after watching the news. The suspect Anil, a tractor driver, had gone to Kalaburagi district soon after the incident.

However, police also said they have received tips on his location and are likely to nab him on Tuesday.

The child’s decomposed and burnt body was found in Anil’s house on Sunday although police suspect she was killed on Thursday. Police suspect the girl was sexually assaulted before being smothered to death.
A team has been formed to nab Anil and police have taken the help of his co-workers to track his movements in Kalaburagi.

A senior police officer said the investigation team had spoken to Anil’s wife and sisters who were shocked to hear about the incident. Anil had reached his native on Friday and stayed with his wife’s family. Police said Anil may have moved from there after watching about the investigation on TV news channels. “Once he’s brought to the city,  interrogation will begin to ascertain the motive,” said a police official.

Meanwhile, the autopsy was conducted at KIMS Hospital on Monday and the body was handed over to the girl’s parents.

The girl was visiting her grandparents in Veerabhadra Nagar while her parents live in Hosakerehalli.
