Karnataka High Court brokers peace between warring couple

A man facing a criminal case filed by his wife against him, was let off by the High Court after the couple agreed to bury their differences and live in harmony.

BENGALURU: A man facing a criminal case filed by his wife against him, was let off by the High Court after the couple agreed to bury their differences and live in harmony. The court, however, made it clear that the wife can reopen the case against her husband if he raises his hand on her.

This judgment was delivered while allowing the petition filed by a 33-year-old man from Kempegowda Layout, challenging the criminal case filed by his wife on charges of cruelty and criminal intimidation.

According to the judgment, Krishnakanth* married Chandrakala* in 2014. Differences cropped up between them and Chandrakala filed a criminal case against him. She had also filed a divorce petition which was referred for mediation. Later they agreed to reunite and accordingly, the matrimonial proceedings were dismissed as withdrawn.

“It is made clear that if the husband ill-treats his wife, she is at liberty to reopen the case,” Justice Anand Byrareddy said. The court also quashed pending criminal proceedings against Krishnakanth.
