BENGALURU: As a few Bengalureans headed out to watch the most-awaited movie Baahubali 2: The Conclusion on Saturday evening, their weekend was hit by heavy rain.

Areas like KR Circle, Adugodi, MG Road and others witnessed slow moving traffic. However, an official from the Bengaluru Traffic Department said, “The traffic was manageable. This is the normal Saturday traffic which is expected.”

Two-wheeler riders were caught
unawares by the sudden downpour

Dev Chatterjee, who was heading from Johnson Market to Forum Mall to watch the movie said, “The rain did slow down the traffic. Although it was a moving traffic, the pace was quite slow. We feared that the traffic jam would turn chaotic, but luckily we were able to reach the theatre on time.”

Fortunately, not much of tree falling or power cuts were reported. BBMP had received just three cases of tree falling from Rajarajeswari Nagar, Sadashivanagar and Jakkur Layout.

Meanwhile, HAL recorded 0.5mm of rainfall, while the Kempegowda International Airport received low rainfall.

According to the Met Deparment, the city received 3.8 mm showers for almost an hour, a much relief from the heat.

Met Department director Sundar Mahadev Metri said, “The rain that we witnessed is due to trough of low pressure running from south Konkan across interior Karnataka and interior Tamil Nadu. In fact, some parts like Hassan had witnessed heavy rains.

South Karnataka witnessed scattered rains with thunderstorms, dusty winds and hailstorms,” he said.
He added, “It is likely that the rain will continue on Sunday. There might be scattered rains in south interior Karnataka and isolated rains in north interior Karnataka."
