BENGALURU: In line with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment Bill) 2016, Namma Metro is finally set to have its first creche facility for mothers with babies and young children at Baiyappanahalli Metro depot.

Metro Managing Director Pradeep Singh Kharola said, “We will open a creche in our staff quarters. The process of buying cots and other equipment is under way. Staff will be recruited to manage it shortly.”

Asked if it would be restricted to Baiyappanahalli alone, he said, “Based on the demand, we will extend it to other Metro stations.” Vice-president of Bangalore Metro Rail Employees Union was not satisfied though.

“We had asked for creche facilities at the four terminating stations of Baiyappanahalli, Mysore Road, Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli. But only one is coming up now,” said Suryanarayana Murthy. Express had highlighted the plight of young nursing mothers suffering without facilities in its issue dated June 10, 2017.
