BENGALURU: Sending out a strong message to residents who have been opposing the installation of Sewage Treatment Plants mandated by the government, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on Saturday made it clear that those who do not have them in place by December 31 will be penalised. Earlier in the day, thousands of apartment dwellers had taken out a protest march, calling BWSSB’s move discriminatory.
Addressing a hurriedly convened press conference to counter the citizens’ protest, Engineer-in-Chief, BWSSB, Kemaparamaiah said, “We have given public enough time to install the STPs. We will not give any extension after the deadline of December 31.” STP rule is mandatory for apartments with 20 flats built after Feb 25, 2016 and those with 50 units that came up after May 11, 2007.
