BENGALURU: “A huge relief to everybody” was the response from Srikanth Narasimhan, general secretary of Bangalore Apartments Federation (BAF), after the announcement on relaxation of rules pertaining to the STPS was made on Thursday. “We are thankful to the government for considering our request and acting in our interests. It is a victory which highlights the importance of citizen engagement with the government,” he said.

The Federation had made an hour-long presentation on Thursday on the huge problems faced by apartment owners of older buildings at the BMRDA office to Ministers K J George, Ramalinga Reddy and Mayor Sampath Raj. An expert on STPs, Ananth Kodavasal, also presented his view. The presentation dealt with the impracticality of setting up STPs in older apartments. Narasimhan added that the buildings will not withstand the pressure if they are broken to install a dual pipeline system. Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said,“We have decided to amend the rule on retrospective STPs and the same will be approved.”
