BENGALURU: Event organisers in the city have slammed the decision of Bangalore City Police to deny permission for an event featuring Bollywood actress Sunny Leone on New Year’s Eve. Sangeeth Ram, owner of event management firm Sound Awake, said, “When people hear the words Sunny Leone, they think in the wrong way. It is not that she is coming here to expose.” Regarding the reason cited by the police, he said as the event was restricted to a certain number of people, it is up to the event managers to organise security.

Salman Syed, event consultant for Vapour, said event organisers are entitled to police protection as they pay for it. Regarding the protests by pro-Kannada groups, he said, “What about Ajanta and Ellora caves then? I think we are a bunch of hypocrites.” He said the organisers will stand to lose a lot of money if the event is cancelled.

Though former DG&IGP S T Ramesh agrees with the decision of the police, he says permission can be given after laying down a condition that nothing obscene will occur at the event. “Maybe she is popular. But if the police say that on December 31 they can only concentrate on New Year’s celebrations and do not have the resources, then it is fair,” he said.

Ramesh questioned the protests saying Kannada films showed far more obscene dances. “How do Kannada sentiments accept that? What happens to Kannada pride then?” he asked.

Kannada director, actor and screenwriter Nagathihalli Chandrashekar too agreed with the reasoning of the police. “Karnataka is too sensitive now. Bengalureans already have lot of headaches, and this will be an added headache.” He said it could be chaotic on December 31.

Ban is India’s favourite word. Karnataka banning SunnyLeone is the way forward. These so called culture & Tradition Rakshaks are dragging this countrybehind.

My question is for Karnataka rakshana vedike. Few days back girl was gangraped in Bangalore, did KRV group protest?

If I want to go to a cultural program i want to see,e.g., Bharat Natyam, not Sunny Leone. If I want to go to a concert or see item song, I want to see Sunny Leone, not Bharat Natyam.Pravingandhino1 @pravingandhino1
