BENGALURU: The Shatabdi Express running between Mysuru and Chennai suffered a loco failure near Kengeri railway station around 4 pm on Sunday. All the passengers were safe.

According to a top railway official, Train No. 12008 left Mysuru at 2.15pm and was heading towards Chennai via Bengaluru. “As the train was approaching Kengeri railway station, a technical fault caused a failure in the engine. The train ground to a halt.”

A repair vehicle carrying an alternative engine was immediately called for. “Meanwhile, the loco pilot was trying to rectify the fault in the engine. He was able to set the engine right before the vehicle arrived and the train commenced its journey by 4.45pm,” the official said.

As a result, the Shatabdi reached Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) railway station only at 5.03pm instead of its scheduled time of 4.15pm. “It is now running late by 70 minutes. The train left Bengaluru at 5.35pm instead of its scheduled departure of 4.25pm to Katpadi station,” the official added.
The incident resulted in the Basava Express running late by 40 minutes and the Rajya Rani Express (Mysuru-Bengaluru) was delayed by 30 minutes.
