Only 20-30%  funds used local bodies 

Though the financial year is coming to an end, most of the local bodies across the state have not fully utilised the funds allocated by the state government in the 2016-17 state budget.

BENGALURU: Though the financial year is coming to an end, most of the local bodies across the state have not fully utilised the funds allocated by the state government in the 2016-17 state budget.
Upset with this, the Urban Development department has issued a warning to all local bodies. As per information available with Express, a majority of the local bodies utilised just 30 per cent of the funds while there are a few which utilised just 20 per cent.

In a communication, V Ponnuraj, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department noted that senior officials are facing humiliation while briefing the Chief Minister. A copy of the communication, available with Express, reads, “Though the financial year 2016-17 is ending, many local bodies have not utilised the funds released during the year. The works too have not been done as per the action plan. This is a big humiliation for the department officials while briefing the CM”

Meanwhile, the department also issued a calendar of events for local bodies to follow, according to which they have to upload their plans based on the funds released by March 31 every year. The deadline to get approval for the action plan from the Deputy Commissioner of the district is April 30 and they have to complete the tender process for the approved action plans by July 15.
