BENGALURU: An Indian Air Force helicopter, carrying about five personnel on board, made an emergency landing near Malle Nalsandra village in Bengaluru Rural district on Sunday.

The chopper, according to sources, belonged to the Southern Air Command and was heading towards Sulur Air Force Station in Tamil Nadu after attending the Aero India 2017 expo, which concluded on Saturday.
Midway, the pilot spotted a glitch in the Russian-made Mi-8 -- a medium transport helicopter. After identifying a barren patch of land, the pilot decided to make an emergency landing near Malle Nalsandra.
Soon after the emergency landing, personnel inside the helicopter conducted minor repairs on the chopper to make it airborne.

Following this, the helicopter was flown to Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd at Marathahalli.
HAL sources added that a thorough check of the helicopter will be conducted before it is declared fit to fly again.
Speaking to Express, local police said the helicopter remained in the area for almost two hours, before it was repaired and flown back.
