BENGALURU:  The police have recovered another gun from the 52-year police constable who was recently arrested for stealing his colleague’s gun in 2006. Police said the machine gun was stolen in 2007 from the armoury in the City Armed Reserve’s headquarters.

Addressing a press meet, City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood said, “We have recovered Carbine machine gun 9-mm that was stolen by Purushotham from the CAR armoury. He has been remanded to judicial custody. A departmental inquiry is also ordered and he will remain under suspension.”

This is the second weapon seized from Purushotham, who had stolen the weapons while on duty. A resident of Mysuru Road CAR police quarters, he worked as a gunman for MLC and film producer C R Manohar. He had also stolen a gun from his colleague in 2006 while working in Raj Bhavan.

“After the recovery of the first gun, we questioned Purushotham and he feigned to faint. We admitted him in a hospital. He called his wife and told her to shift the sten gun to a realive’s house. Based on a tip off, we were able to recover the gun,” Sood said. The gun went missing in February 2007 after a detailed stock audit of the CAR armoury.

A police complaint was registered in Cottonpet police station. Nine constables  and one head constable were suspended. Their increment was also postponed by a year and the case was closed.

Sood said “We will request the authorities concerned to revive the increments of these police personnel who have been victimized by the acts of Purushotham and will try our best in this regard.”
Purushottam was taken to NIMHANS for counselling.
